When I arrived Mayoral candidate, Bob Gangi, was speaking about “Reducing the populations in the jails and close Rikers without spending the money”. Bob spoke about the current mayor De Blasio’s budget plan of $$275 million to build a new police academy, “We’re not going to do that?” Mr Gangi spoke of De Blasio’s proposal to build street car service connecting the Brooklyn/Queens water fronts; $2.5 billion. “IN the last fiscal year 2016 the city paid out $279.7 million in settling law suits against the NYPD, $279.7 Million. The NYPD doesn’t even pay that fine. That comes from another part of the city budget. The individual police officers don’t pay the fine, that were sued. They’re probably not even notified that there was a legal case against them when the city when into a settlement. We think there are other parts of the city budget that are now being proposed that can be used to pay for these kinds of programs and services for people now who are living at a disadvantage in the city”.

The time has come for our Mayoral candidate to make his official announcement!

Save the date: Wednesday, April 5th at 1:30PM at 1 Police Plaza.

It will be our preliminary announcement so it is imperative that we have as many of us, Bob’s initial supporters, there to voice our support. We will need volunteers to distribute flyers and campaign merch as well as to sign new people to the campaign. If you are available for these tasks, please email maesha@gangiformayor.com

We also ask that each of you who plans to come bring a friend or two along – especially those who don’t know Bob. We are excited about our message and would like as many people as possible to hear it!

“What we’re going to take a look at,, said Bob Gangi, the city spends $10 billion or more on law enforcement, most of it goes to the NYPD when you count pensions and other personnel costs the NYPD budget is between $7-8 billion”.

Gangi is looking to cut back the budget for the NYPD and “every functioning aspect of the criminal justice system and law enforcement apparatus. So we will look to get savings out of those funds too”

“Do you see yourself in City Hall?” was a question posed by one media who came out. Gangi’s response, “We’re in it to win it and we’re in it to raise these issues and get these issues in to the main stream”.

Bob Gangi quoted Malcolm X when he said, “If you stick a knife in my back nine inches and pull it out six inches, there’s no progress. If you pull it all the way out that’s not progress.” Another question from the media, “Bob, what is going to be your campaign strategy”, in relation to the small amount of $ he has compared to other candidates, a “Small campaign operation, how are you going to get your message out and compete against an incumbent who has many, many advantages?” Bob; “We’re going to be smart, energetic and aggressive. We’re going to take a page out of Beyonce’s book and take lemons and make lemonade. We haven’t made arrangements with the “wealthy” of NYC. (quotes mine). We haven’t made arrangements with well resources real estate developers in NYC. We’re a Real campaign, a gras roots campaign and we’re going to be reaching out to the people in as aggressive ways as possible.”
