Barth Beasley “Run On To Detroit” – Music Review

RunOnToDetroit 1000x1000 at 72 (1)After establishing a solid music career in Eurasia, Barth Beasley has come back to the States and to his home in Battle Creek, Michigan. One of the many highlights during his electrifying career was being the first American to win the Voice of Asia for Best Song and Performer Award in 2006. Not bad for a fellow who hails from what his fellow neighbors referred to as Cereal City.

When the needs of his family ultimately outweighed the rewards of his continuing musical success Barth made the tough decision that his mother’s health came first. As he held her in his arms during the last minutes of her life music was the furthest thing from his mind. Luckily as the years came to pass Beasley began to rediscover his love and need for his art anew.

Trained early on as a classical pianist he began to sing and compose songs once again. As time slowly passed Barth continued rehearsing and writing until he had the passion and enough material to return to the recording studio. He would not return alone.pix3

Teaming up with Emmy Award winning and Grammy nominated producer Allan Phillips (writer/producer of the soundtrack for the PBS program “Grannies on Safari” and producer for Eva Ayllon’s acclaimed Kimba Fá album) together they began recording tracks for a 14 song album for Beasley’s newly formed independent record label, 50 West Music. Phillips brought in a cast of great touring and studio musicians including legendary drummer Tiki Pasillas. Tiki’s worked with jazz, pop and Latin greats such as Marc Anthony, Carlos Santana, Michael Jackson and Destiny’s Child.

The first single, from the yet untitled album, is called “Run On To Detroit”. With this song he not only reconnects the dots between his rock, soul, pop and neo-soul roots in his writing, but also manages to share his experience of growing up against the odds in the town known as Cereal City. Barth Beasley’s soulful voice and powerful piano playing are just a few of the gems that sparkle on. Add to the mix the brassy swoops of a lush horn section along with a solid rhythm section, then stir in a healthy dash of backing vocals and vamping and you have the tasty recipe for a chart blockbuster.

So, if lady luck is along for the ride on this leg of his new musical journey then I’d venture to say that “Run On To Detroit” is going to be Barth Beasley’s next big step on his run on to the world.
