Impending Lies ‘Believe’ EP Music Review

Cleveland.

The backyard to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Hometown of music and media greats ranging from Joe Walsh to original MTV Veejay and radio personality, Nina Blackwood.  The city is full of a healthy mixture of sounds and cultures. And, it rocks.

One semi-new band out of Cleveland is the rock group, Impending Lies. The band’s five-track EP ‘Believe’ is an exceptionally-produced product. The sound is impeccable and multi-layered fusion of rock, electronic buzz, melodic rock and some thrash metal is highly enjoyable.

In “Shine” the positive lyrics are a nice change; they are also very easily distinguished. As a listener, I got wrapped up in the words and tone in this tune. Fans of repetitive choruses and rock-pop / radio friendly tracks won’t necessarily like this tune (it takes awhile before they actually sing “Shine) but they will have to get over it. It’s a great track.

“Separate Ways,” a Journey cover, is tastefully done. No slip ups on this one. I was hoping for the vocals to really let loose on this track; they played it safe. It’s very close to the original but missing Steve Perry’s range and unteachable emotional rendition.

“Let Go” and “Just Stop” were a few of my favorite tracks. I don’t know, call me crazy, but I liken them both to an ’80s montage movie segment. Someone is working out like crazy or someone is shopping the heck out of that mall in my mind when I listen to these tunes.

Finally, the title track has the most bite. This song explodes and catapults the listener to another dimension. Again, the positive lyrics are invigorating. The guitar riffs are crunchy but reach into a melodic level. This song really gives its all and encapsulates the EP. Mic drop!
