Activists from The Peoples Power Assembly, Occu-Evolve and the #BlackLivesMatter #HisLifeMatter movements held several events around New York City yesterday to pay their respects to Malcolm X who was assassinated 50 years ago on February 21st.
The daylong activities included a 12pm rally outside of the Adam Clayton Powell State Office Building on 125th Street where Malcolm X used to hold street meetings, a 4pm tribute to Malcolm X at the International Action Center on 24th Street and ended with a 9pm candlelight vigil in front of the Audubon Ball Room at 165th Street.
In addition to remembering Malcolm X, these actions were helping to increase public awareness of the upcoming “People’s Tribunal Against Police Violence and Structural Racism” to be held on Thursday, April 2nd at the National Black Theater near 125th Street and 5th Avenue.
