REVIEW: Scarlet & The Harlots ‘We Can’t Seem To Get Enough’

carletAndTheHarlotsNortheast Ohio product, Scarlet & The Harlots have that blue collar grit and lovable, charming sound that sways the line between bluesy rock and alternative pop. It’s an enjoyable ride.

“There Once Was a Girl” is a shower of fun and Rubenesque vocals. The wall of sound fits nicely alongside the slippery guitar. Vocalist (Scarlet) soars when she’s singing the lyrics “Music will be back on MTV, someone will put a stop to Glee.” I loved the saxophone layer and Scarlet’s feisty, Janis Joplin-like delivery.

Throughout the EP, the jazzy undertones and arrangements are not only welcomed, but elevate the already stunning vibe. In “Moonshine Ghost” the fun fueled piece has an unforgettable guitar riff.

The title track is quirky and includes a dash more bass funk that the others. I love the chasing, up beat sounds (in all these tracks). It reminds me of a bluesy Mighty Mighty Bosstones.

In “Jolene” the magic that Dolly Parton created is not lost. It’s less twangy, but Scarlet’s vocals and emotion is definitely felt. It’s a bit slower. It’s hard to not like this version.

I can’t seem to get enough. Rounding out the collection are “What To Do,” “We Are In Control,” “Follow,” “Makin’ Progress, ” “Best You’ll Get,” “Hard Times,” “Chain of Affairs,” “The Road,” and “Slowly Go Down.” All worthy listens. These guys are great. Solid A for Scarlet & The Harlots We Can’t Seem To Enough.
