“Streetz” by Kins featuring Murda Mook – Music Review

Kins ft Murda Mook StreetzBuffalo, NY, rapper Kins explodes on the Hip Hop music scene with her debut club banger “Streetz” (Firehouze Entertainment). Rap addicts are sure to want more of what this young new talent is serving up. Lyrically she reminds us of what urban swagger is all about and stylistically she’s reminiscent of artists like Eve or Remy Ma. This lady’s the real deal! DJs, clubs, tastemakers and lovers of hip-hop all across America should be starting to discover her in a big way this year.

“Streetz”, the first single off her still untitled album (scheduled to drop on January 7, 2015), is just a taste of what she does with rhymes and rhythms. Kins understands that survival on the city streets requires confidence, integrity and pride. All the blood, sweat and tears that went into making this track are sharp reflections of these qualities that are tempered by a balance of both her poise and attitude. An artist such as she is here to represent; it’s as basic and elemental as pure platinum.

The best way to describe her style of music is gritty old school rap lyrics that meet edgy new school beats, carefully crafting elements that are both rhythmic and thought provoking. On this current release, “Streetz”, Kins joins forces with Ruff Ryderz Records’ own Murda Mook, to paint a morose musical mural depicting the graffiti like pressure and tension of street life in the hood. Here’s a sample of her lyrics:

“So stop pretending
Any track that I kiss
Believe what I said
You let the ghost writer smash
What you spitting is dead
Codes red from my blood shed”

Kins’s track is as tight as a tourniquet. The intro’s dark two note horn motif creates a sinister vibe that evokes the sensation someone would feel while swimming in an ocean and spying the large dorsal fin of a great white shark breaking through the suddenly still water’s surface. It sets the mood of this juicy joint perfectly for what’s next to come; a taunting, repeated sample of a statement from undefeated five-division world champion boxer Floyd Mayweather who warns, “You must’ve forgot, you must’ve forgot, you must’ve forgot what I do for a living, I do it in the streetz”. To which Kins replies, “Ain’t no need for fronting for Kins, ain’t no need for fronting for Kins”.

I was hooked on “Streetz” after I heard it for the first time. If this cut is indicative of what Kins is dealing; I’m interest in copping a lot more of what she’s selling.
