The Virginmarys: King of Conflict – Music Review

If Queens of the Stone Age, Buckcherry and Aerosmith had a kid, it would sound like the northern England three-piece, The Virginmarys. Their debut album King of Conflict packs a punch, taking influences from every pocket alt-hard rock.

King of Conflict starts off with the explosion that is “Dead Man’s Shoes”, giving the listener a great introduction of the incredible record that is to come. Tracks like “Portrait of Red” and “My

Little Girl”, rooted in blues, bring a classic sound into the present. Let’s get something straight – the Virginmarys are not reinventing the wheel here.

They embrace their alt-rock sound and rely on the tried and true method of strong vocals, standout guitar riffs, shifting tempos and fantastic melodies. But that recipe is what makes King of Conflict a fantastic rock record, each note packed with raw energy and an album one can enjoy from start to finish without disappointment. Highlight tracks include “Bang Bang Bang”, “Just a Ride” and “Running for My Life”.
