The Croods (2013) – Movie Review

20130417_1958The Croods is an adventure, comedy, animation movie that is family centered. With a runtime of 98 minutes, you will be elated just like me as you watch  this movie. This is highly recommended for kids for the enjoyment and  lessons they can learn from the adventure and travels of the  family.

The Crood  family  is happy and content as cave people. This is the way Grug brought up his family to be shielded from all the harsh elements of  nature and harmful animals. But time and seasons change, and the world and comfort zone they used to have is no  longer  a safe abode for them.

The movie is fast paced, lively and  there was not a dull moment in the entire duration of it.  The voices of  Nicolas Cage for   Grug, Emma Stone for Eep, Ryan Reynolds for Guy, Catherine Keener for Ugga and of course the voice of Cloris Leachman  for Gran all fit to the characters they portray.

I love the action especially their food hunting game. They show family cooperation and support which makes them victorious over the other hunters. Their love is evident by how they treat and look after each other. We can see how protective a father is Grug to his kids especially to Eep who is an adventurous girl. When she sees the light emanating from outside their cave, she by all means strive to find it.

Except for Eep, they are all content by the way they live as caves people, until an earthquake happened destroying their home  thus leaving them no choice but to explore the outside world for a new habitation.  Adapting to the outside world is not easy as they  need to contend with food and place with other creatures of the wild like Chunky and Piranhakeets.

With the help of Guy, a lone cavemen she just recently met, Eep and her family travels  to find their place under the sun. Their  journey takes them to places and wonders they have never seen before such as the lush vegetations,  flowers of all kinds and interesting creatures.

Their life has been made easier with the help of Guy. They have come to learn and enjoy wearing shoes to protect their feet from walking in search of a paradise named Tomorrow and to make friends with other creatures instead of being harsh to them.

Learning to adapt to their newly discovered tools like the umbrella and  the ski used to descend a cliff  are just some of the enjoyable

things any kid or child at heart person will love.

Experiencing the feel of the rain, sun and fire  is such a liberating and good experience for them. Their swim is a funny thing to watch.

Although Grug becomes jealous of Guy for his talent and genius and because his family likes him,  they finally reconciled when both faced a critical moment.

Although they’ve become  separated  because of the earthquake, Grug used his newfound intelligence to devise a plan to go where his family is. But while inside the cave, he manages to draw upon the walls his family as  a token of love and as a memento of their being caves people.

In the end, Grug and his family finds their Tomorrow because of  faith and by taking some risks. The movie is enthralling  and edifying. The setting is superb as well as the animation and graphics.

The film offers hope and happiness in family togetherness. People can have problems,  nevertheless, our circumstance can change, but change should start  from within.

The movie has a high entertainment appeal and provides a wholesome experience for all members of the family.
