Occupy Wall Street Themed Left Forum Starts This Friday In New York City

Each spring in New York City, Left Forum gathers intellectuals and activists from around the world to address the burning issues of our times. It provides a unique space for the generation of ideas crucial to theorizing and building a resurgent Left.

The theme for this year’s conference is entitled “Occupy the System: Confronting Global Capitalism” and is being held at Pace University in New York City from Friday March 16th to Sunday March 18th and features participants from all corners of North America, as well as Asia, Africa, Europe, and Latin America.

Contrary to the major media’s coverage (or lack of coverage in many instances) the Occupy Wall Street movement’s message is clear: one percent of people living in the wealthiest nation in the world have grabbed most of the country’s wealth and used it to corrupt politics, while unemployment, mortgage foreclosures, strangling student debt and rising poverty grip the rest of the population. The world is changing, the people are rising, and new possibilities for the Left are emerging.

As with last year’s event, Hot Indie News will be conducting video interviews with Left Forum attendees and some of the 1400 featured speakers such as Nnimmo Bassey, RoseAnn DeMoro, Marina Sitrin, William Strickland, William Tabb, Stanley Aronowitz, Dead Prez, WILL VILL, Esteban Nembhard, Malisha Jimenez, Nyaka NiiLampti, Steven Smith, Michael Moore, Wallace Shawn, Elaine Bernard, Arun Gupta, Chris Hedges, John Holloway and Frances Fox Piven to name a few.
