Movie about Facebook called "The Social Network" prohibit to be advertise on Facebook

If you were a great big movie studio getting ready to release a major motion picture about the early days of Facebook, where would you advertise? You might want to try MySpace–or Twitter. But Facebook? Of course not.

According to Sony SVP Steve Elzer, Facebook’s guidelines prohibit the new David Fincher-helmed The Social Network from advertising on that site.

“Facebook’s advertising guidelines don’t allow ads to reference the company unless Facebook has cooperated with the object of the ad. So, we won’t be advertising there given these parameters,” Elzer said.

The fact that none of the controlling forces behind Facebook have played a role in the movie (and are likely not really looking forward to its release–co-founder Mark Zuckerberg, especially) certainly doesn’t help much.
