Vancouver – Melissa Endean, called “Canada’s up and coming major talent” by CBC2 Radio, is celebrating the release of her new album “Authentic” with a CD release party at Cellar Jazz, 3611 W. Broadway, at 6pm on November 22nd. Melissa will be accompanied by a full band, including a horn section! Tickets are $10 and $2 from every CD sale will be donated to Canuck Place Children’s Hospice.

Melissa RaeAnne Endean was born on May 7th in Kamloops, British Columbia. She comes from a talented musical family which includes a Grandfather who played with Johnny Cash. Having grown up with country music, Melissa’s first album: Home Sweet Home was an offering of traditional country songs, which received airplay world wide. Though Melissa still pens country tunes, her heart lies elsewhere, and this album is the culmination of much musical exploration and a lifelong journey towards finding her own authentic style. A prolific songwriter and musician, Melissa also has a passion for art and is an accomplished painter. She supports many community events, speaks at local schools and gives teen songwriting workshops.

“Authentic” is about Melissa finding her voice. After sifting through hundreds of original songs, she “chose the songs that I felt were the authentic me.” The album has many underlying themes, the most important of which Melissa wanted to convey is hope. Melissa’s favorite track from the album is “Cold and Lonely,” she explains: “I wrote the lyrics while waiting for the bus, after seeing a young homeless girl holding out her cup, asking for change. My heart went out to her and I began to see hopelessness and loneliness as places where our minds can hold us prisoner. Though the lyrics were sad, I wanted to give a sense of hope within the song, so I tried to give it a melody that was uplifting and soothing. The message I wanted to give was that though times can get dark, there is always a ‘peaceful valley’ calling us home. We just have to want to get there.”

The album was recorded entirely via the internet, with contributing musicians meeting after the album’s completion. Many of the industry’s best talent asked to be part of this project, including John Mellencamp’s keyboard player, John Prine’s guitar player and one of the album’s horn players has worked with the Dixie Chicks and other great artists.
“Melissa Endean and her band will enchant you with her pure, unaffected voice and her easy stage presence.”- CBC2 Radio
