New York Green Challenger Enters District 22 Race
By James Lane
With chants of “Win with Lynne” coming from a crowd of supporters, environmental activist Lynne Serpe kicked off her City Council campaign this past weekend.
Ms. Serpe is well-known locally as co-founder of Triple R Events: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Triple R organizes free green events such as clothing swaps to promote reuse and the annual Queens is Green Fashion Show. Triple R partners with city agencies, local artists and small businesses to promote the green resources in LIC/Astoria.
She also work for a Queens nonprofit that provides weatherization services for low to moderate-income households, particularly the elderly, the disabled and families with children.
“I’m running to give voters a choice between a political power structure that is stuck in the past and a vibrant green future.”
“I understand first-hand that a new green economy focused on energy-efficiency will lower utility bills and reduce energy consumption, maintain affordable housing, improve public health and create good, green jobs that can never be shipped overseas,” she explained.
As your Councilwoman, my proposals will save taxpayer dollars and increase efficiency – and not just for buildings,” continued Ms. Serpe. “Instant runoff voting for city-wide primaries will allow voters to rank the candidates in their order of preference, avoiding a negative, costly and inconvenient runoff election two weeks later and saving the City $15-$20 million.”
Lynne Serpe has a strong record of community involvement. She is on the Steering Committee of Two Coves Community Garden and is active with Transportation Alternatives Queens Committee, Long Island City-Astoria Alliance (LICA) and the West Queens Greens.
“Last year, the incumbent voted to extend term limits, voted against the will of the people. This year, it’s our turn to be heard,” she said in conclusion. “Change is wanted, change is needed, change is possible.”

How refreshing to see new blood in the 22nd Council race. Ms. Serpe appears to be a solid, viable and popular candidate, the kind I wish more third parties would offer. Choice is something we all talk about wanting but rarely get. This is great!!!
My experiences with Lynne have proven to me that she is a natural born leader. She is highly organized and thorough and will make an excellent Councilwoman.
Lynne is truly amazing! She brings to the table superior organizational knowledge and skills, a deep and broad understanding of the true meaning of sustainability, an understanding of politics and the need for change, and will deliver to the City of New York solutions to the larger issues we are all facing, beginning at the municipal level. Along with her unfailing passion and commitment to the planet this should leave no doubt with anyone in her precinct, who is the least bit concerned about our future, how they should vote. In addition, she is one of those stellar individuals who, once they cross your path, leave a most favorable and lasting impression. New York City really would win with Lynne.
Lynne is amazing. I do not know of anyone who works as hard or as tirelessly for justice and sustainability as Lynne. Adding her to the City Council would help make New York an even better place to live.
