Seattle Erotic Art Festival May 1-3, 2009 – Indulge Your Senses

The Seattle Erotic Art Festival presents their seventh annual event May 1-3, 2009 at the Seattle Center Exhibition Hall. The Festival expects to host over 3,000 attendees during the three days of events which will feature visual, performance and literary art in addition to after-hours parties, workshops, and special presentations.

Over 2,200 entries were submitted for this year’s juried exhibition; 200 pieces were selected through a three-panel jury process. An additional 100 works were selected by guest curator Sharon Arnold and the museum-quality Festival Store offers over 4,500 works of art from among 215 artists suitable for everyone’s taste including books, DVDs, cards and gift oddities.

“We’ve designed the Festival to support and promote living artists by keeping our fees and commissions low and by educating our newest patrons on how to appreciate art and become life-long collectors,” said Anna Hurwitz, Festival Director. “Holding the Festival directly under the world-famous Space Needle is helping to bring us further into the mainstream while presenting work that is as celebratory as it is challenging.”

In addition to an impressive range of visual art, patrons will also enjoy interactive installations, lavish live performances and after-hours DJ dance parties. “Nearly all of the 60 performers participating are sharing a new expression of their work created just for the Festival,” said Clayton Hibbert, Festival Performance Director. “Performance is the oldest, and in many respects the most natural means of giving voice to the erotic.”

This year the Festival premieres the Literary Art Showcase — original erotic writings have been selected by an invited jury from over 120 submissions including poems, plays and stories. Winning pieces will be featured during the festival.

The Seattle Erotic Art Festival runs Friday, May 1st through Sunday, May 3rd, 2009 at the Seattle Center Exhibition Hall. Discounted advance tickets can be purchased online. There is no admission charge on Sunday, May 3rd during the Festival Open House which features the Exhibition and Festival Store.

The Seattle Erotic Art Festival (www.seattleerotic.org) was founded in 2002 by The Foundation for Sex Positive Culture (www.sexpositiveculture.org) to promote freedom of sexuality, speech and creativity through the erotic expression of fine art and to support living artists.
