The chatter I have heard from the die hard fans (aka geeks) over the past few months has either been 1) “this movie is going to tie everything together nicely and make episodes 1 and 2 a necessary, if not painful, evil to have watched”; or 2) “Its just gonna be another piece of bantha dung that doesn’t fit with the story I had running in my head for the last 20 years.” Well it was a little of both. The people who dress up like stormtroopers and wookiees and ugnaughts to see these movies will probably be at least a little disappointed if not crushed. Those of you who have girlfriends that are not computer generated or inflatable might actually enjoy it.

The movie was filled from start to finish with laser blasters, lightsabers, and countless other CG eyecandy to keep your attention focused on this movie and distract you from a story line that isn’t up to par with the original three (surprise surprise). Anakin is now a powerful Jedi who has saved his pal Obi-Wan in many a tight spot, but he still isn’t very bright. He spends the movie being manipulated and fooled by Chancellor Palpatine and used by his pals on the Jedi council. If you’re waiting for the epic event that sends him to the dark side, well there is none. It only took a bad dream a fairytale and an old dude with lightning fingers to send the chosen one on a killing spree that includes other Jedi and even children. This brings me to my favorite aspect of the movie. It was violent. This movie wasn’t filled with robot fights like episodes 1 and 2. It was chock full of people on people (or people like creatures) violence. Beheadings, assassinations and limbs flying off everywhere, it was wonderful. If you like amputees this is the movie for you.

This film wraps up neatly with the remaining Jedi going into hiding and the children split up for safe keeping.

In conclusion this isn’t a movie you will stand in line for 7 times. However, it was an enjoyable action movie that should keep your attention for the full two and a half hours. Unless of course your one of those idiots that still wears his ewok slippers and Chewbacca underoos from 1984.
